The primary aim of this project was to provide guidance on a range of techniques for detecting and mapping biogenic and cobble reef habitats, with a particular focus on Sabellaria spinulosa reef. The underlying assumption of the project is that all habitat mapping surveys would consists of a combination of remote sensing and ground truthing as sampling on its own does not give sufficient coverage for mapping and remotely sensed data cannot be interpreted without adequate ground truthing. This fundamental principle of habitat mapping has been developed in the INTERREG Programme "Mapping European Seabed Habitats" (MESH).
