The 'Derek the Dredger and the Marine Biologists' project will build on the success of 'Derek the Dredger and the Underwater Archaeologists' by using the same format to introduce issues concerning the relationship between marine aggregate dredging and marine wildlife. It will introduce a potentially complex subject using the simplest means possible so that young children find the topics accessible and fun. It will turn marine habitats and biodiversity, and marine aggregate dredging into imaginative, fun, exciting subjects that appeal to children aged between five and seven. The production of the book has three main elements: the illustrations, the story, and delivering the message about the relationship between maritime archaeology and marine aggregate.

The project is in it's early stages but a storyline has been developed after meetings with marine wildlife specialists and a publisher has been met with to discuss potential marketing strategies. The storyline explores the special talents of marine wildlife and explores how the aggregate industry can compliment our knowledge of the underwater world.
